I became interested Akro Agate as a small child, playing with my Mom's set in the attic. What child ignores the urge to play with a beautiful set of children's china
hidden away from Mom's view when you are told not to play with that one thing! I was careful, never breaking anything and putting it away so she would never know it was
I had touched it. My brothers and sisters were not as careful when sneaking up there to play with them! Pieces got broken over the years, eleven children
later.
As the years went by, Mom would always tell us she didn't need anything for her birthday or Christmas, that she had everything. That made me think of replacing
the broken pieces for her Christmas presents. Off to EBAY, auctions and garage sales I went! It took me a few years of purchases to get the pieces we needed to replace
all the pieces.
In my quest, I became interested in all of Akro Agate, learning about the variety of children's china sets, the vases, ashtrays, and marbles. I started collecting
all of them, including some Westite pieces I admired. I am amazed by all the patterns, colors and variety that Akro Agate had.
My husband helped and encouraged me in my quest to get the replacement pieces to my Mom's set and has learned as much about Akro as I have! I have sets made for my
daughters so that they can enjoy it also. My Mom's set is proudly displayed in her display cabinet, and she was amazed I found all the pieces for her! she didn't
think it could be done.
We are still learning about Akro Agate. In a way we are addicted to it! We have bought cases to store and display them.
We do have some Alley Agate also. They had their own style of production also, not of the same quality as Akro Agate. As always, one has to be aware
of the counterfeit pieces which are available for sale online. There is a difference between the counterfeit and real Akro Agate! That I do know!
We have decided to offer for sale some of our extra pieces. Perhaps we can help someone who is on a quest to finish a set as I did! Various pieces will be listed
in the future.
